About the St. Peter’s Ward Team

We are the Liberal Democrat team in Oadby St. Peter’s Ward: a group of local volunteers who work to make our area a better place to live. Please go to our online shop to help support our campaigns.

Borough Councillor Ian Ridley:

I was elected in 2019 as one of the two Borough Councillors for St. Peter’s. I’m a Data Analyst in Leicester and have lived on Rosemead Drive for over 20 years. I know what it’s like to work, study and raise a family here.

• I first moved to Leicestershire in 1990 to study, graduating with a Doctorate in Climate Physics from Leicester University;

• I was a Governor at a local primary school for 8 years and Vice-Chair for 2 years;

• When big changes to our Oadby schools were announced in 2014, I helped to form the SOS Oadby campaign of local residents to oppose the alterations. Although our thousand-signature petition didn’t halt the plans, the strength of feeling helped to make the schools think again and come back with some improvements to their ideas.

• I’ve worked locally in both the public and private sector in local government, engineering and now education.

• In my spare time I enjoy star-gazing (as part of Leicester Astronomy Society), cycling, watching Leicestershire County Cricket and supporting Leicester Tigers and Leicester City.

Borough Councillor Jasvir Chohan:

I have lived in Oadby for over 35 years and have been involved in voluntary work for most of my life. Over the years I volunteered in the fields of mental health and dementia as well as supporting under privileged members of the community.

As a passionate community advocate, as your local councillor I will keep you informed about my work through our frequent FOCUS newsletters, regular residents meetings and going out and about to meet community groups.

I am working closely with Councillors Ian Ridley and local residents to build a better area, including the redevelopment of the Old Swimming Pool into a new community centre and pavillion. I am keen to hear residents’ ideas, please get in touch.

County Councillor Dean Gamble:

After a career in local catering, I now work in retail and live off Briar Meads

● I was elected in 2001 as first ever non-Conservative County Councillor in the former NE Oadby division

● The Oadby Residents’ Forum is part of the unique approach of our Liberal Democrat Borough Council to bring decision-making all of us in Oadby. I was fortunate to have been Chair of the Forum in the past, helping residents and councillors to decide local spending in Oadby.

● I enjoy helping local residents and determinedly following up casework, including improvements to play ground equipment and footpath resurfacing.
